This Interdisciplinary Studies BA in Social Sciences of Oceans is a fully online degree designed to offer students training in social science approaches to addressing complex problems related to oceans and island societies. Major required upper division courses span across seven departments in the College of Social Sciences at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, including Anthropology, Economics, Ethnic Studies, Geography and Environment, Political Science, Sociology, Urban and Regional Planning and the Center for Pacific Island Studies.
This online degree program offers students interdisciplinary approaches to studying issues of global importance, such as governance and nationhood; identity and inequality; resource management and development; and the movements of peoples and cultural forms. Taking the University’s location in the middle of the Pacific seriously, the program centers on Oceania and the voices of Pacific Islanders.
Designed for working adults, this accelerated online BA degree is offered in five-week segments. This program is flexible and focused. Individuals with prior college credits equivalent to an AA degree, will earn this online Bachelor of Arts degree in less than two-and-a-half years.
