Modern women of academia

CSS Dean Denise Eby KonanCenter for Oral History Director Davianna McGregor, and Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Chair Lani Teves were guests of Modern Wahine, a local women’s magazine show hosted by Brook Lee. The episode, on the topic of women of academia, aired on March 20 on KHII (Spectrum Channel 5).

Scholarship honors memory of urban planning professor and environmental policy expert

The Lowry family has established the Dr. Kem Lowry Scholarship Endowment for graduate students at UH Mānoa studying environmental planning, natural resource management, evaluation and, or, conflict resolution at UH Mānoa’s College of Social Sciences. The scholarship honors the late Gordon Kemmery “Kem” Lowry Jr., who was chair of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and professor emeritus, as well as director of the program on conflict resolution before retiring 11 years ago. Crime and punishment

Ashley Rubin, a professor of Sociology, participated in an online conversation hosted by Knowable Magazine, “Behind Bars: The Invention of Mass Incarceration,” in March. Rubin’s research sits at the intersection of criminology, history, sociology and sociolegal studies.

The topic of transportation

Karl Kim, a professor of Urban and Regional Planning, is among the co-authors of the recently published book, Creating Resilient Transportation System: Policy, Planning and Implementation. Kim is executive director of the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center.
