When the Fall semester launches us into a new academic year, it’s always an exciting and hectic time at the College of Social Sciences (CSS). But Fall 2022 is especially thrilling! We celebrate August by announcing our new School of Communication and Information (SCI), which is one of the largest reorganizations in recent UH Mānoa history.
Three existing programs in CSS – Communications, Journalism and the Matsunaga Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution – welcome two new programs to form SCI: Communicology, previously in the College of Arts, Languages and Letters; and Library and Information Science, formerly in the College of Natural Sciences.
Also in this August issue are profiles on two important groups within our CSS family: alumni and donors. Yuki Asahina shares how, after earning his doctorate in Sociology, CSS opened doors for him as he launched a teaching career in Seoul, South Korea. And Randy Kosaki, son of a prominent couple who devoted decades of career service to UH Mānoa, is honored that their endowment continues to provide student assistance years after their passing.
