Educate and empower. These are just two of the missions at the heart of the College of Social Sciences. Our faculty, staff and administrative team work hard to educate and empower every day – and this is the special time of year that student success is recognized in a grand, public way. UH Mānoa’s 113th Annual Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Stan Sheriff Center, where our latest class of CSS graduates will celebrate the culmination of their hard work and dedication.

In this CSS Summer 2024 newsletter, read about the 50th anniversary of our Mānoa Political Internship Program, which has placed college students into Washington, D.C., and Honolulu internships so they are better prepared for careers in law, government and administration. Meet Journalism major Aimee Hi’ilawe Neves and learn what makes her this year’s CSS Outstanding Graduating Senior. And we’re also proud to introduce alumnus Ben Weitz, who has parlayed a CSS degree into his new position as executive director of Shangri La on the stunning Diamond Head coastline.

This is my 12th year as dean of CSS, but the excitement of Commencement is always new, fresh and motivating. We are so proud of our mission to educate and empower. Congratulations, Class of 2024. Mission accomplished!
