A recently published book honors the contributions that a sociology professor has made to the field of global studies. Manfred B. Steger has helped develop this emerging transdisciplinary academic field exploring globalization dynamics over the last two decades. Steger is one of the most prominent and widely-cited globalization scholars in the world today.
Revisiting the Global Imaginary: Theories, Ideologies, Subjectivities: Essays in Honor of Manfred Steger explores Steger’s extensive body of work on globalization. One of the most influential scholars in this field, his conceptualization of global imaginary is among the most significant developments in thinking about globalization of the last three decades.
The book pays tribute to Steger’s work and explores practices associated with the reproduction of the global imaginary in such diverse sites such as mobile money, Irish pubs, cyber-capitalism, urban space, music in post-apartheid South Africa and global political movements.
Steger has served as a globalization advisor to the U.S. State Department and has delivered dozens of invited lectures at major universities around the world. He is currently collaborating on globalization issues with scholars at Western Sydney University, Australia, and other academics in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region associated with the Global Studies Consortium housed at the University of California Santa Barbara.
