Election victors armed with MPAs
Five out of 5. That’s the number of graduates and current students of the Master’s in Public Administration degree program who were victorious on election night 2020. They were Radiant Cordero, MPA 2016, new Honolulu City Councilmember; Keola Lindsey, MPA 2016, new trustee in the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; and Jackson Sayama, MPA 2021, new state representative. Reelected as state representatives were Roy Takumi, MPA 1993; and Ty Cullen, MPA 2007.
An acknowledged twentysomething leader
Bree Nidds, a 2012 Communications graduate, has been recognized as a member of “20 in Their Twenties” of young business leaders by the Professional Convention Management Association. Nidds is vice president of sales at Discover Lehigh Valley, an organization that provides direction for sustainable growth in Eastern Pennsylvania. Said Nidds, “I am proud and honored to be on the list with colleagues from around the world. So much of my success in my career started because of my education at UH Mānoa, so I wanted to share a positive testimonial!”
Research funding for students
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) will be accepting applications for project funding (up to $5,000 per individual, $10,000 per group) from February 2 to March 3, 2021, and encourages all undergraduate students from all disciplines at UH Mānoa to apply. UROP also accepts applications for presentation funding (up to $2,000 per individual, $4,000 to $5,000 per group) every month. See the UROP website: manoa.hawaii.edu/urop
